3 cosas que saber antes de decorar un hogar

3 things to know before decorating a home

Have you ever heard of blank page syndrome? That first face to face between a writer and the first page of his book.
Something similar happens when they give you the keys to your house. That initial illusion fades when you see yourself face to face with the empty space. A space that is your house, but that you still do not consider your home.

For us, the word home has a very broad meaning, it encompasses our own space, family and good memories. Your home should be the reflection of your personality, a space created by and for you. A space that you identify with and makes you feel good.

And although it may sound contradictory, we believe that there are common foundations in all homes. Little tips that will help you overcome the syndrome I was talking about, start calling that new space home. We have asked our designer to give us some tips to achieve this. So, if you have just bought/rented a house or are planning to do so, what Lara is going to tell you will interest you:

NATURAL LIGHTING: THE SUN IS LIFE

How good that first ray of sunshine of the day feels to us, having a coffee in the morning receiving vitamin D. And the sun is not only beneficial for the body, but also for the interiors, it makes us have a warmer and more ecological home ( It is the best ally during the winter and helps you save on your electricity bill). That is why we must take advantage of every ray of light that comes through our windows.

The first thing is to eliminate all the barriers that prevent it from entering. Move tall furniture such as display cabinets or shelves away from the windows and opt for light, clear curtains. Cotton and linen are the best allies to maintain your privacy without depriving you of light. In addition, their natural fibers will give that warm touch to the environment.

Once we get the light to sneak into our home, let's make the most of it! Add touches of white on the walls, ceilings or large furniture so that the natural light effect is multiplied. And don't forget the mirrors, they are a great ally for any corner of your home. Hanging on the wall, on top of a sideboard or in front of a window, it will help you create a feeling of spaciousness and light.

And if any of the rooms do not have enough natural light, the important thing is to use the appropriate type of light for each space. The tone and type of light bulb is a very important decision, we must illuminate each space according to how it will be lived. For example, we should look for a softer light for the living room and dining room, a light that invites long after-dinner conversations and moments of rest with the family; or a more intense light in the kitchen, which helps us concentrate.

FURNITURE DESIGNED TO LIVE IN SPACE

I know firsthand how tempting it is to get carried away by trends. Who hasn't gone to the stores to get some jeans and bought the entire look from the new collection? But of course, talking about clothes is not the same as talking about furniture.

I remember that one of my interior design teachers always told us “the basis of a good interior designer is knowing the needs of each person and the use they are going to give to each space.” So, be water my friend, we are not going to start the house with the roof. Before you go looking for your perfect furniture, think about what you really need and what use you are going to give it.

Let's see it with examples, which is always easier.

Your dining room is small and you are worried that the dining table will “eat up” all the space. My bet is on a round table, since the elimination of edges facilitates circulation. Also, I'm sure you haven't thought about it, but a round design encourages conversations. They are perfect for those long after-dinner conversations with friends or for playing cards with the little ones.

Another point to keep in mind to gain lightness is to opt for tall furniture, pieces that take advantage of the dead space left on the wall. For this reason, I always recommend vertical sideboards, in which doors and shelves cannot be missing. With storage space to have your living room computer, because clutter also affects emotionally and psychologically.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DEAD SPACE

We live in a society where houses are getting smaller every day. Therefore, now more than ever, we value having space and taking advantage of it. Are you taking advantage of all the space in your house? Do you have a lot of dead spaces?

It is inevitable to have dead corners, an empty space under the stairs or behind the door that we don't know how to take advantage of.  Well, it's time to give it the importance it deserves and turn those spaces into useful spaces.

Let's start with the easiest part, the radiators. Surely you know someone who has put the radiator on the wall and then couldn't put up that sideboard that they liked so much. Well, the solution is very simple: place them behind the doors. This way, when you go to turn it on, you close the door and heat the room, making the most of that dead space.

Or take advantage of that same space to place wall coat racks. There are very nice coat racks, but when we fill them with things they get lost and cause a feeling of disorder. Hide that mess by placing it behind doors and thus take advantage of dead space.

This is a brushstroke of ideas to take into account to create a home. Building a home is a difficult task, at Wabi Home we consider that it requires time and a lot of love.

Hola !
Gracias
